Testimonials
"John Mezes gave me in depth script notes line by line. He pointed out the strengths and weaknesses of the script which greatly helped me in my rewrite. John also instructed me in proper formatting. His approach is both friendly and encouraging. If you are serious about improving your script, I highly recommend John."

"I had the good fortune of meeting John this year. I observed him give constructive (positive but with an effort to improve) feedback for several months before I made the decision to work with him directly on my screenplays. I've found his notes to be useful -- directly actionable points -- and a nice mix of "quick fixes" to character and story points. As a creator, it can be difficult to trust someone with your work and invite criticism. John is an excellent choice for professional feedback that will enable you to reach your goals as a writer"

"John provided extremely helpful feedback and advice on my biopic -- his notes were spot-on. Unlike other coverage services, it appeared to me that he'd actually read EVERY WORD of my script and prior to our conversation had thought carefully about changes that could be made without compromising the accuracy of the character portrayals. I really enjoyed speaking with him and would not hesitate to use his services again in the future."

John also understands what it takes to deliver an industry level pitch. "As a new scriptwriter I had no idea where to even begin and found myself trying to organize a complex plot. John not only understood my vision but his critiques helped me to breakdown my stories in ways I never thought I could. Would I work with John in script development again? I absolutely would and highly recommend John with all levels of script development."

"John gave me great insights into making my pitch better, tighter, and more compelling. I highly recommend working with him. He helped me reorganize my pitch for greater impact, gave me ideas on how to show more of the world, and ways to amp up the drama between the characters in my pitch. His feedback got me so excited to work on it that I almost called in sick at work to do so."

"John's attention to detail in story speaks for itself. He helps guide writers in their pitches with character arcs, plot points and world building, and with the help of his notes, multiple writers have had their script requested after working in our practice pitch sessions."

I wholeheartedly recommend John Mezes for his exceptional script analysis and feedback. John possesses an uncanny ability to identify the subtle nuances in your script that might have eluded others. His insightful feedback not only pinpoints areas for improvement but also brings to light the overlooked intricacies of storytelling. With a warm smile and an infectious chuckle, John effortlessly reveals ways in which your script can flow more seamlessly through a rewrite. His keen understanding of your characters, the narrative, and the broader market for your film is nothing short of remarkable. John's feedback is not just constructive; it's a guiding light that helps you navigate the intricacies of your own narrative.
What truly sets John apart is his encouraging and supportive style. He doesn't just point out flaws; he offers solutions and suggestions that empower you as a scriptwriter. Furthermore, John is remarkably generous with his time, ensuring that you receive the attention and guidance you need to refine your work.
John Mezes is a valuable gem, and any scriptwriter fortunate enough to collaborate with him will undoubtedly appreciate the opportunity to tap into his wealth of knowledge and expertise.

The thought of sitting down with someone who tells you the good, the bad, and the ugly about your script can make one a tad apprehensive. Consulting with John Mezes does not. He genuinely cares about both writer and work, supporting the former while improving the latter, and he does so with utmost professionalism. The notes he gave me were clear, even offering a simple tip on how to format an atypical scene. These insights will carry over to other projects, not just the one we reviewed. The recorded Zoom session arrived in my email within a day, giving me a valuable resource to refer to. I highly recommend John; I won’t hesitate to consult with him again.

As a first-time screenwriter, I had the opportunity to meet John through Stage 32, the founder of The Writers Buddy script consulting website. I booked a consultation with him, during which he went over his notes with me. I wanted to ensure my script was correctly formatted, and his keen eyes found errors and patiently explained the rules to me. He also had several suggestions for character development that could clarify and expand the storyline, especially since my story is set in a different cultural setting.
I appreciate him emphasizing that these are his notes, and ultimately, I decide whether to incorporate them into my story.
I highly recommend John and his services, and I plan to book another consultation, even earlier in the development stages of my next project

John gives great feedback and delivers it in a way that is, at all times, personable, calm, polite, and respectful of the writer’s vision and intention. I have had the pleasure of observing John’s approach in the Stage 32 Pitch Practice sessions and I was delighted to hear he had set up The Writer’s Buddy. My writing partner and I recently requested his feedback on a first-draft horror survival creature feature. We’d been building upon each other’s work but were at a point where we felt we needed feedback on genre, style, and approach. John gave us that and more. Enthused by his tips and enthusiasm, we’re now en route to finishing a solid and professional first draft. We’re also looking forward to working with John again.

The Writers Buddy was a terrific help getting my script ready for the pending requests I've received from agents and producers. As a working screenwriter, John knows the finer details of how to format scripts, and how to get across clearly how you intend a scene to unfold without 'directing on the page.' He offered tips on what the producer might demand and even provided some ideas to punch up the script in a hilarious way. John is not only a consummate professional but also a wonderful person. Invest in yourself, your work, and your dream by having The Writers Buddy on your side. You'll be happy you did.

Wow, just WOW. After a short 30 minutes of meeting with John, my writing partner and I knew exactly where and how to fix our pitch. He was kind, supportive, and concise - just amazing! I highly recommend ANY time spent with John - he will change your pitch exponentially!

I met John through his pitch coaching sessions. In the many months I have been attending his pitch class I have observed (and appreciated) his genuine, supportive manner to writers of all skill levels. John always tries to give the writer a boost. When I met with him to discuss my latest feature script, I knew it would be useful to hear his view, but I didn't expect the depth of feedback that I received. John gave me specific advice on how I could make the opening stronger and that has made a world of difference in this story. If this were Yelp, I'd give John 5 stars!

Having completed a roster of eight feature screenplays and two shorts, with two of the features securing "Winner" status (2021 Santa Barbara International Screenplay Awards & 2021 Block Island Film Festival) and one short recognized as a "Second Rounder" (2021 Austin Film Festival), I'm here to share the highest praise for John Mezes' "The Writer's Buddy" script consultation. I admire John's approach to consulting, as the first 30 minutes is devoted to formatting, and the remaining 30 concentrates on the story. I've consulted with actual executives who failed to provide the attention to detail that John offered once he embraced my script. John is quite personable, patient, funny, and extremely knowledgeable (He'll read your screenplay with a film director's intentions in mind, which I find to be a huge benefit.). Plus, there's no need to jot down notes at a record pace during the presentation as John will immediately send you a video copy of the entire hour! With that being said, John is one "Screenplay Soldier" I would want in my foxhole during an Epic Revision Battle. Looking forward to another consultation. Hmmmm. My "Female-Driven" child abduction script, perhaps? The Writer's Buddy script consultation is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
